Shanghai Xuhui District Huishi Primary School

1.  School Profile

Located in Xu Jiahui, Huishi Primary School is one of the earliest schools to accept western science and culture in our country, and also one of the schools with the longest history since Shanghai opened its port to the outside world.

Founded in 1884, the school was once a missionary school run by French. In early 1951, the people’s government took over Huishi Primary School, and changed it from a private school to a public school in 1952. In 1998, the school system was transformed. The school is subordinate to Xuhui District Education Bureau with the length of schooling of 5 years. It currently has 27 classes with over 1, 000 pupils. The school is qualified for enrolling overseas pupils as approved by Shanghai Education Commission.

The school occupies an area of 22 mu, with spacious and bright teaching buildings and modern teaching facilities. Apart from the multi-functional classrooms, computer rooms and information studios, each classroom is equipped with large-screen color TVs and computers. The school has established the campus network and linked with the other schools, besides, the school also possesses football field, tennis court, and plastic track. The sound hardware facilities and campus environment has provided ideal material conditions for pupils to achieve healthy body and mind, and study on their own initiative. At present, the school boasts a team of teachers with high political quality, sound professional ethics, and strong capabilities, also organized more than 30 special hobby groups for the students, such as Calligraphy, Painting, Dancing, International Chess, Tennis, Football etc, which has provided strong guarantee for the healthy growth of pupils. Hence, the school has received favorable comments from pupils, parents and society.

Huishi Primary School is the National Modern Education Technology Experimental School, Shanghai Scientific Education Research Institute Experimental School, Shanghai Psychological Counselling Experimental School, and won the honorary titles of Shanghai Code of Conduct Model School, Shanghai Physical Education Advanced Unit, Shanghai Sanitation Advanced Unit and District Model Unit.

2.  Purpose of Running Overseas Class

The school specially opens an overseas class to settle the issue of schooling for the children of some overseas personnel working in China and in Shanghai, and provide the opportunity for them to receive good education.

3.  Aim of Running the School

The long school history has laid a profound cultural foundation for the current development of the school. The long-term teaching practice has formed the sound learning style, teaching style and school spirit of Huishi Primary School. The school advocates the Huishi spirit of running the school in a scientific and rigorous manner, and adheres to cultivating pupils in an all-round way. Through 5 years of training and studying in Huishi, the pupils basically enjoy healthy body and mind, standardized conduct and habits, and solid cultural knowledge, which has laid a sound basis for the further study of pupils.

4.  Features of Running the School

Provide courses that adapt to the Chinese culture, moderately strengthen English teaching, and suits overseas children.

5.  Object of Enrollment

Any healthy child born between September 1, 1998 and August 31, 1999

6. Method of Application

The parents should bring their children to our school to apply for admission within the specified period on the strength of passports and certificates of birth.

7. Number of Pupils to Be Enrolled: 25.

8. Tuition Standard: USD 2,500 per semester.
